Écharpe Kerchief

This pattern was designed in collaboration with Sewrella Yarn as part of their Spring Lookbook.

An ideal spring wardrobe staple, this scarf is perfect for transitional weather - warm enough for a cool breeze and lightweight enough for higher temperature days. I imagine reaching for this piece before heading out on a mild spring day, an easy and wearable layer to pair with any outfit.

This scarf is worked sideways, beginning at one end, increasing until the full width of the piece is reached at the center, and decreasing until it reaches the tip at the other end. Worked in broken rib stitch with I-cord edges, this pattern is very beginner friendly. The stitch pattern is simple - repetitive and easy to memorize - perfect for mindless knitting, with just enough texture and color to keep you engaged.

The pattern includes options for working the scarf with or without stripes. And it’s a very quick knit, requiring very little yardage. You’ll only need one skein of the main color, and one skein of the contrast color if you choose to add stripes - and you’ll have plenty of yarn leftover at the end! The sample was designed using Sewrella Yarn Classic Sport, and the pattern is easily adapted for fingering or DK weight yarns.

SIZES: Sizes 1 (2)

Size 1 is shown in cream and size 2 is shown in green with cream stripes.

Length of completed scarf: approx. 38 (50) in/97 (127) cm

Width at center of completed scarf: approx. 4 (5) in/10 (13) cm

YARN: Sport weight

Shown in Sewrella Yarn Classic Sport in Jardin (green) and Au Lait (cream)

This pattern can be adapted for fingering weight or DK weight yarn. You may need to adjust the needle size in order to achieve gauge. I recommend knitting a swatch to check your gauge and to make sure that you are happy with the resulting fabric. A fingering weight version will result in a lighter weight scarf and a DK weight version will result in a heavier scarf.

YARDAGE:

For the striped sample in size 2, I used one skein of Sewrella Yarn Classic Sport in Jardin for the main color and one skein of Sewrella Yarn Classic Sport in Au Lait for the contrast color. I used the leftover yarn from my skein of Au Lait to knit the solid sample in Size 1. (And there was still plenty of yarn from both skeins left over!)

The yardages below are the exact yardages used in the samples. I recommend having a little more than the exact yardages listed below on hand just in case. Exact yardage will depend on the yarn you use, your gauge, and any modifications you make.
